Huia Timeline

This week during lock down I have been learning about Huias. This research was very interesting and I learnt heaps about them! Here is my timeline.

  1. Hi Lily

Hope everything is going well in your bubble?

This is a great post showing us all that you have the information you have found about the Huia. They really are a beautiful New Zealand bird. It is such a shame that we don't have them around anymore. Imagine if we could walk outside and see one in the trees.
Maybe an image of the bird would be great to add to your post.

Well done and keep up the great work! I look forward to reading more of your work while you are learning from home!

    Until next time

    Mrs Costello :)

  2. Morena Lily! Hope you're enjoying a wonderful day of sunshine at your place today? This was very interesting to read, and I think it's so sad that they are no longer here with us. There is a really interesting story from a March 1896 about some children and an adult walking from Blackball to Taylorville (back before they had any roads) just after the Brunner Mine Disaster, and they saw a Moa come out onto the track ahead of them. It then veered off and ran into long grass and bush. This apparently was the last sighting of a Moa. However because of all the attention being focused on the mine tragedy, this incredible story didn't get any attention. Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful day today Lily and keep up the great work investigating interesting topics : ). Miss J

You have presented key facts in an easy to read and interesting format. I have seen pictures of The Duke wearing the feathered hat. I have noticed a few kiwiana items in gift shops featuring the huia. Thankfully we now understand about how important it is to protect and celebrate our native
birds. I look froward to returning to school and seeing the tui and kereru enjoying the kowhai trees.
