W.A.L.T: Apply our maths strategies to real life word problems.
This week in maths we did a problem solving task and we had to read the questions then answer them using our maths skills. We also had to put in the equation we used to work it out on using words, diagrams and symbols. The questions were all about 5 farm animals. Also we had to highlight the main words in the questions that help us work out what the equation is.
I found this activity fun and I think I'm quite good at it but I need to work on getting to know how to do my fractions a bit better.

Giraffe Writing
W.A.L.T Write descriptive sentences. This week in Mamaku 2 we had to write a story and use a picture to write about. This was the picture that Mrs P gave us. It is a little girl taking a giraffe for a walk. In the story we had to describe what the giraffe looked like and where the little girl was taking the giraffe. I enjoyed this activity and think that I included some good description. My next step learning goal for writing is to organise my ideas into paragraphs. |

Fairy tales
This week we have been writing what is a fairy tale.We had to write what a fairy tale is and where to find one in a library. When we were in the library it took us a while to find fairy tales as we looked in the fiction section. They are actually in the non fiction section. Once we had found one we had to look at what made it a fairy tale.
I think that this was a fun activity and now I know what a fairy tale is. What is your favourite fairy tale?

Nessie Visualisation
This week in class we had to draw a drawing of what we thought Nessie the Loch ness Monster looks like. First we had to read a text which described it a little bit so that we could visualise in our heads what it might what it looks like. Also we are going to be learning about the Bermuda Triangle, UFOs and the Lost City of Atlantis. This was a really fun activity I hope you liked my drawing. What do you think Nessie looks like?

The One and Only Ivan Prediction Poem
WALT make predictions to help us understand what we read.
We got the words from the chapter headings in the chapters of the One and only Ivan book. Then we cut out the words that we thought was right for the poem. We haven't read the book yet so we had to guess what the book is about and write what we think about Ivan. My group thought that he was quite lonely.

Place value partitioning
This week in maths we have been learning to use place value partitioning to solve addition and subtraction problems. This is an easy strategy to use. Here is an example.
